If you have a traditional “new build”, you probably have a standard entryway closet. If that is the case, it is about 4-5 feet wide on the inside with a single door (likely a 32″ or 36″ door). The following is a free project plan/demonstration that shows the steps to take to turn your regular old closet with a single door into an attractive storage space with cubbies and a boot bench.

This is a simple plan for a DIY window seat. If you have your own bay window and space is being wasted, you MUST build this window seat in your bay.
This builder used applied MDF panels to create depth and a nice design. You could do the same, or if you are shorter on material, you could do a simple applied molding. To be honest, if you have the MDF it will be cheaper, faster, and easier.
With the popularity of the storage unit shows in cable TV (Storage Wars, Auction Hunters) everyone wants to get into the business. I am sure that unit buyers who have been doing this for years are not too pleased. With more buyers, come higher prices. However, many want to know about the auctions, and who are we to keep you from a little fun. Just remember, you have to sell all the junk that you buy.

Every year I run into the issue of poor garage storage space. This year I am going to do something about it. Well… that is what I have said for 5 straight years. Each year I’ll add a shelf, some hooks, or a cabinet, but nothing seems to work. My space needs have either grown, or my hodgepodge of shelving isn’t cutting it.

This year, my intention is to alleviate our issues by moving things up off of the floor and providing high storage with some custom cabinet storage along the entire wall.
This plan comes from The Family Handyman Magazine and is a terrific concept. The lumber won’t be cheap, but if it helps to clean up my garage, then it will be mission accomplished. It would be nice to park both vehicles inside the garage
