If you ever have to replace a toilet, or a wax toilet ring, you will probably want to review a quick “how-to” prior to doing so. Even if you have done it in the past, it couldn’t hurt to review the steps prior to tackling this job.
Hammerzone.com has a very quick and simple DIY guide for replacing a wax ring on a toilet. If you are installing a new toilet, swap the toilet out instead of cleaning up the old.
Replace a wax toilet ring.

If you have ever finished drywall, you probably remember that it is messy and your job doesn’t always look like a pro did th
e job. The products that you use for the base (setting) coat and also the sheen of your paint matter.
This tutorial, or how-to, from rd.com is short and covers the techniques for each joint. Print it out, keep it with you and you will certainly end up with a more professional drywall job than if you try some DIY trial and error.
A couple of tips from my numerous drywall jobs:
- Use a flat paint. Flat paint will hide more of the blemishes in your drywall job. Anything that reflects light will show your flaws.
- Try to smooth your first and second coats of joint compound. If done properly, you will not need to sand until your final coat of compound is applied.
Good luck.

I had a question recently about product alternatives for Dryvit or Stucco. If you have seen a new commercial building going up, or have seen a transformation of an older building, you have probably noticed some of the products used to create a completely new look for an old structure. A contractor out of AZ was kind enough to provide me with a list of the products used. I hope that this helps someone who is searching for the right product for their commercial renovation.
You can search for “Exterior insulation and finish systems” (EIFS).
Here is a list of products. (note: not all of these are considered EIFS).
There are also brands such as:
Dryvit
Thorowall
Finestone
Sto
Acrocrete (Synergy as well)
Premix Marbletite
Parex
Shield Industries
Shields
Bonsal
Fuller
Eurocoat
Best
Colormatch
Color Guard
Masterwall
R Wall
USG
Celotex Quick R
Stucco Sir
Densglass Gold
Durock
Pro Stucco
Good luck. I hope this helps.

If you are installing a laminate floor, you might not want to spend the few dollars for the installation video that most flooring or home centers offer. Now you don’t have to. Lowe’s offers a simple video animation on their web site. It takes less than 10 minutes to complete the entire guided tutorial and it will help to ensure that you are doing things correctly. It isn’t hard to lay down the floor, but there are some very simple tips that will save you from a more difficult project.
If you haven’t installed a laminate floor before, you should either view a video or how-to or study the directions carefully. Once you start laying down your floor, you will be happy that you did.
Good luck with your project.

If you have ever searched for commercial real estate in Buffalo, NY or any suburb such as Amherst or Lancaster, you have probably found that searching for commercial real estate is far behind the ease of searching for residential real estate. In the Buffalo/Niagara area, you can do a simple search on the Buffalo Niagara MLS to find most properties in the region.
However, commercial real estate listings aren’t as easy. There is a commercial search at the Buffalo Niagara Homes site, but there is a great deal of commercial property that isn’t listed in that database. I am not sure of the reason why, but I am assuming that it has something to do with the cost to list (just a guess). To make your WNY commercial real estate search easier, I have compiled a list of local web sites where you can find listings. You will see some overlap here, but if you are looking hard, and don’t want to hit the roads just yet, this list should help you.
Some of the sites below will link you to Loopnet. You will be able to view all of the broker’s listings without having to pay the membership fee.
Commercial Real Estate Search (In no particular order)
A paid option is to search via LoopNet. You will be able to view a limited recordset with a free membership. The paid membership isn’t cheap, but you can subscribe for a short period. If you do end up locating a property, you will consider the cost as a pretty nominal expense.
If you are a commercial real estate broker in the Buffalo area, contact me to request your free listing on this site. You can contact me by adding a comment using the form below. I will add your web site to this page.
